How we chose Abeona:
We went through endless names. Some funny, some rhyme-y, some about the boats color or our initials, but nothing felt right. I felt like the size of our boat commanded a name that wasn’t catchy or full of puns. Also remember, we do have to call our name out on the radio quite often and while calling out “Up Ship Creek” may crack me up, I wasn’t sure how others may take it. It was when I began searching names in other languages, I came across Roman and Greek goddesses with their names and meanings. I wanted a name that rolled off the tongue and one that had personal meaning to it. Abeona, pronounced Ab-ee-own-ah, kept coming up. She’s the Roman Goddess of outward journeys and protects children during their travels. That’s it!! That exactly what I want our vessel to be about. Journeys to new places and someone looking out for my children. Done.
